About The Role
This isn’t your typical AI engineer gig. At Hatch, you’ll have the chance to define how AI works in our product, from prompt engineering and managing evals to integrating the best new models seamlessly into both the front-end and back-end of our platform. You’ll help us turn cutting-edge AI into tools that empower users and make their creative processes more fun, efficient, and impactful. What You’ll Do
- Optimize prompt, system, tools, and API usage for speed, cost, and reliability
- Build robust LLM application infrastructure: agentic workflows, caching, and observability
- Work with product, design, and other engineers to deliver high-impact AI features quickly
- Build or contribute to eval frameworks to ensure AI output quality at scale
You Might Be a Fit If You…
- Have 5+ years of software engineering experience, including recent hands-on work with Generative AI (text and multimodal)
- Are proficient in TypeScript and/or Go, and can navigate modern stacks
- Knowledge of major advancements in AI, including LLMs, Agent Systems, and related fields.
- Understand the performance and commercial characteristics of AI APIs (token costs, latency, retries, etc.)
- Care deeply about product reliability and developer velocity
- Have the ability to take a new problem and run with it. You know how to gather context and seek answers.
- Are excited by startups, even when the future is uncertain
Bonus If You’ve Worked With
- Prompt engineering and few-shot tuning for structured outputs
- Semantic caching or hybrid RAG systems
- Logging, monitoring, and alerting for AI pipelines
- Automated evals with both human and model feedback loops
